About Me

Senior R&D Prototyping Engineer | Unreal Engine, C++ & Real-Time Technologies

Hi, I’m Nicolás Bertoa — a Senior R&D Prototyping Engineer with 15+ years of experience working on R&D projects for DreamWorks Animation and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

I enjoy taking new technologies, ambiguous problems, and early-stage ideas and turning them into something concrete: prototypes, POCs, experiments, and working systems that help evaluate what is possible and what to do next.

For about a decade, I worked on R&D projects for DreamWorks Animation, contributing to Premo and Luna — proprietary tools for animation and rigging. My work evolved from bug fixing and feature development to architecture, optimization, and increasingly complex engineering challenges involving C++, mathematics, computer graphics, OpenGL, and production tooling.

Since 2021, I’ve been working on R&D projects for Sony Interactive Entertainment, primarily using Unreal Engine, C++, and Blueprints to explore ideas, technologies, interaction concepts, and hardware capabilities through rapid prototyping.

I’m also an Unreal Authorized Instructor (Silver). Teaching and technical communication are an important part of how I work: documenting findings, explaining complex concepts clearly, sharing what I learn, and communicating technical decisions and trade-offs.

What I’m currently doing

My learning process is increasingly project-driven: start with a question or technology I want to explore, research it, learn what I need, build a small prototype, evaluate the results, and document what I discovered.

This portfolio is where I publish that work — Unreal Engine experiments, C++ projects, prototypes, POCs, technical investigations, tools, and lessons learned along the way.

Outside of work

I’m a proud Seventh-day Adventist, a father, and a long-time fan of Age of Empires II. I believe in purpose-driven creation, curiosity, and lifelong learning.
